From Seed to Bouquet
I grew up in the flower business and have been arranging flowers pretty much all my life. I’m continually inspired by the seasons, and the desire to use garden flowers, with scent and texture led me to grow more and more of the flowers we sell. This is a different kind of flower business, one that treads more lightly on the Earth, has a lower carbon footprint and which benefits the local environment by choosing plants which support bees and other pollinators. We grow our own flowers from March to October and are passionate about supporting other British flower growers.
We started on our journey towards a more sustainable flower business over ten years ago. Since then we have significantly reduced the proportion of imported (high carbon footprint) flowers we use, minimised our use of plastic packaging and floral foam. Around 50% of our wedding flowers are British grown through the year, and we aim to increase our use of British flowers every year, including growing more of our own. Roses in our weddings are generally imported but we endeavour to source certified flowers from growers with good sustainability practices.
We are members of Flowers from the Farm, the national not-for-profit network supporting small scale British Flower growers. and we promote seasonal, British and locally grown flowers at our markets. Our market posies and gift bouquets are predominantly British grown throughout the year.
